Roundstone News 10th January 2011
Thursday, 13 January 2011 07:19

Just to keep every body out there informed re the www.roundstone.ie website, there will be over the next few months the odd disruption, due to the fact that the site will be going through a few changes, to make it more informative and to change some of the present photographs with a few updated ones.

As Ann said last week we are well and truly into the New Year, with some relief I have to say, the schools were open today.

Talking about schools, I noticed that the land mark of the school bus out side James Connelly’s House is no longer there, Kieran Staunton from Clifden who used to drive for CIE has now taken over the School runs in the place of James, as James has now officially retired after many years as the kids chaperone, we wish Kieran good luck and safe driving for the future.

Some good news for the beginning of the year 2011

Congratulations: To Sean and Anne Burke on the Christening of their son Master Liam, John and to Gerard and Julie Burke on the Christening of their son Master Pierce, Henry. Gerard and Julie are living in Canada; therefore a special effort on their part was to return to the west to be with Sean and Anne for this special occasion yesterday in the Ballinafad Church, nice one for all the Burke family. Let’s not forget also to congratulate their parents John & Catherine, which for them now makes 6 boys and 1 girl as the grand children. So behalf of us all in Roundstone we wish the babes a long and healthy life.

We also have to congratulate Bridget Davis daughter of Bridie and Pat Davis of Innishnee and Dave Coffee Bridget’s husband on the birth of their baby boy, born on the 6th January, a bouncing lad of 9 lbs, and they have called him Dan, that’s a good solid name. So again from us all in Roundstone long life Master Dan

Birthday Wishes: To Raymond Conneelly from Errisslannen who celebrated his 70th Birthday just a few days ago, Raymond is a great supporter of Roundstone and of the Roundstone Pony show, so it’s appropriate from the Roundstone Community to wish him Happy Birthday.

Pot Holes: We have the age old problem after the snow and Ice, Pot holes all over the place, so drive slowly, I noticed some where filled in already a few days ago, which is fine but already they are breaking up again with the rain, perhaps GCC will finish off the Ballinahinch Road, then come to Roundstone for some major repairs and hopefully not just temporary filling. While we are at it Eircom please get the phone lines on track again, here in Roundstone and not just intermittently, so frustrating for every body, it’s the third day

Note for the Diary: There is a FAS Safe Pass training course taking place Saturday 15th January here in Roundstone at the Eldon’s Hotel from 8am to 5pm for builders on site or i would imagine any form of construction, of which I think this training is obligatory, there are four more place’s available, the cost is €100 per person, should any body want to avail of this training, just get in touch with Pat O’Neil on 087 2871012

Don Stiffe: A regular and a very talented musician from Headford known as Don Don who has played in Roundstone on many occasions has now been selected to represent the West as a contestant for the All Ireland Talent Show, voting commences next Sunday 6.30 pm, RTE 1 and as he is of course representing the West Coast, he will need all our votes to keep him in the competition. Good luck Don Don

Well that’s all I have for you for this week, news at this time of the year is very scarce, so people in Roundstone please keep Ann and I informed should any exciting news happen. Have a great week, keep warm and above all keep smiling
