Roundstone Country Market:
The second gathering of the farmers market took place yesterday in Roundstone
and what a huge success it was and what a great display of goods.  It started at 11a.m. till 4pm and business was brisk all day particularly after the 12o’clock Mass.  It brought a great buzz to the village and people hung around longer and met with friends and adjourned to the bars cafes and hotels either for coffee, drinks or even some stayed and had their lunch. The traders had an excellent day
They will be returning in two weeks time, and after that it will be weekly for the summer months.
The down size and there is always that something, Where the market has set up is the entrance to community hall and car park and therefore we feel that a lot of people who may have intended to stop over may think that there is no parking spaces and continue on to another destination but this is something that we will certainly look into to accommodate everyone.

Tidy Towns:

A Meeting took place during the week with members of the Tidy Town Committee and the FAS supervisor Donal Nee.  Donal outlined what the FAS lads would be doing to help the committee get ready for adjudication which begins in June. There are a few black spots which need immediate attention and working together we hope to overcome them. There are three houses that belong to people who live away from Roundstone which are in dire need of a face lift and the Committee will try and contact the owners with the hope that they will do something about this to help us gain points. Last year the judges pointed them out to us in our result.   Otherwise the town is looking good.  The replanting of the new flower beds are a great addition and there are new bins on the way and thanks to donations from the Lotto Committee and the Tourism Committee we will soon have new hanging baskets and flower tubs which will all add to the enhancement of the village.
Tidy Town donation boxes have been in the shops and pubs in the village and at a recent collection we were glad to say that from those an extra €300 has been added to our fund. Thanks to all who put their change into those boxes over the months and although you may think it was very little, little grows in to large. The boxes are back in place again so please keep up the good work with the loose change.
We would like to thank the lads with FAS & Donal for all the good work they have already done and we look forward to working with them again, We miss Johnny who looked after the village for the past many years and did such a good job but we know that Tony & Joachim will be equally as good, judging by the effort they have put into place to date.

On Thursday night 20th May 7.30 there will be a meeting in the Community Hall to discuss a town a Traffic management plan with  RDC and Galway Co Council  So all people particularly those living in the village are asked to attend as this is your chance to be part of the plan and voice your opinion.

Roundstone Pony show:
The annual Roundstone Pony Show will take place on July 11th in the New Show grounds.  The Fashion show and the choosing of the show Queen will be prior to the show but a date on that is yet to be finalised. Tickets are being sold for a Ford Fiesta Car as part of the fund raiser for this event in the village shops and pubs.. The draw will take place on New Years Eve Night here in Roundstone and a ticket costs €50 and are limited to 1000 tickets.

Tennis Courts Wedding:
On Friday 21st May a wedding will take place here in the village between Peter Shanley, Dublin and Kate Kennedy of Oughterard. The reason I am mentioning this is because it is something a little different.  They will be erecting a Yatch Tent on the tennis courts; although they will have outside caterers the wedding will focus a lot on and around the village with every available accommodation booked out so it should be a very busy few days. This is something to look to for the future. Therefore our congratulations to Peter and Karen, wishing you both long life together as husband and wife.

Local Lotto:
Next week the lotto will be held in the Roundstone House Hotel, now standing at    €10’050

Roundstone Bingo Club:
Friday night at 8.30 in the top part of the Community Hall

First Holy Communion:
Takes place Sunday 30th May in Roundstone. Brownan Laffey Rory King, Dylan King, and Owen Mahon are the four children from our village.
This year six pupils will leave St Enda’s for the Community School in Clifden and I am not sure if there will be any replacements.
It is sad that the school numbers are declining so much.
A few families have returned, settled and looking for planning permission to build new homes. We must do all we can to encourage this.
