I do not have a lot for you as it seems the winter period is fast approaching, however we seem to be able to carry on with a bit entertainment in Roundstone here and there.

Senior Citizens;
Five members from the Roundstone Community went on the Annual North West Connemara Forum Holiday break from last Tuesday to Friday evening, with other village members from Connemara 62 all told. Heading off to Westport for lunch then on to Enniscrone, just out side Sligo, where we stayed at the Diamond Coast Hotel, for the next three days, we were very comfortable, good food and great entertainment, music and dancing, in fact the entertainment was also supplied from our own guys, Mathias Conneely, and Thomas Hanue with the accordion, whistle and the spoons, Thomas by the way has a great singing voice, Mathias daughter Monica also sang, as did Ellen McDonagh, and Martina Gavin and Geraldine Kelly, I can assure you with all the group there was no shortage of fun for the next three nights.

The Wednesday morning we then set off to Enniskillen, with our tour guide Michael Ryan through extraordinary country for a shopping spree, shopped until we dropped. Then on the Thursday not with the full contingent, because a good many wanted to do the Sea weed baths, or walk along the beaches close to our Hotel, however the rest went up to Fermanagh, Drumcliffe, which is Yates country, therefore we went to see where William Butler Yeats was buried with his wife Georgina at the site of the St Columba’s Church which had been a place of Christian Pilgrimage for over 1500 years, then back down to Ballinar, on to Attymass to visit a site dedicated to the Rosary Priest, Father Patrick Peyton who died in 1992, he was very respected for his prayer crusade all over the world, preaching the importance of prayer, especially family prayer hence the famous slogan “The family that prays together, stay’s together”. Then Friday back to Castlebar, for more shopping, then home.

Unfortunately I don’t have the time to talk about every thing we did, suffice to say Martina Gavin and Geraldine Kelly from Forum who arranged this trip, and the carer’s i.e. group leaders from each locality did a great job, in taking care of the Senior Citizens, it’s a big responsibility, but every body had a great time, particulay yours truly, ashamed to say having never really seen this part of Ireland, or learnt anything about the history of the various area’s, it was an eye opener, and some very interesting people amongst the group. I have put a few photographs on the Roundstone website, under photo events, if you would like to see them.

Clare Ferron & Stephen Head
Another wedding was held in Roundstone this week end i.e. Friday, with the marriage of Catherine and Michael Ferron’s daughter Clare who tied the knot with Stephen Head who by the way hails from Australia. Saturday evening Michael & Catherine hosted a party for all the local people, wow what a great night, with traditional music and of course the dancing, where the fun loving Australians were taught some traditional steps from our local ladies, I have to say it was rather like a war dance, but they were great fun and danced with great spirit, anyway congratulations Clare & Stephen on your marriage and I hope it will be a great one for the both of you for the future.

Mary Anne & Dermot McDonagh:
Congratulations to Mary Ann and Dermot McDonagh on the christening of their son Master Alex which was yesterday, followed by a celebration in the Shamrock, therefore we all wish young Alex, well for a long and healthy life. Its great for me to be part of the celebrations and to witness the solidarity of a family

Halloween:
As we are coming into the Halloween weeks, there are two things happening, spooky bash in the shamrock Bar on the Sunday of the 25th, spooky outfits is a must, but on the same night the Cashel spooks are also having a mayhem party in Johnny O’Loughlin’s Bar, in the Zetland 9pm, but the party is to benefit the Cashel Defibrillator Fund, the only reason why I mention this is that Joan Addley, who was the instructor for the Roundstone people to be trained for the use of a Defibrillator, Joan was incredibly helpful for us to reach our goal, I feel that we should contribute in some way for Cashel, the cost per person to enjoy this bash is €5.00, but I think drinking and driving will put pay to most of us going to Cashel, so I have a suggestion would anybody in Roundstone donate €5.00 or what ever towards this worth while venture to allow Cashel to reach their goal, we in Roundstone should give some thing back.

Well that’s it, say good night dick, have a great spooky week end and be aware of the drinking and driving, stay safe. Thanks for listening, its Ann’s turn next week.
