Unfortunately the news is very scarce at the moment, therefore not much to relate, I am sure there is more out there, but can’t find it.
It would be helpful if anybody has some snippets to put out please let Ann or I now about it, the news is the one thing that does go on the website, to keep various relations, and friends of Roundstone across the water to keep them informed on the well being within the Roundstone community/ Connemara.
RDC: Roundstone Development Council AGM will be held on Monday 28th February at 9pm in the Lower Community Hall, Roundstone. Then afterwards the election of a new community council will take place, the current community council has come to the end of their three year term and it is now time for a new council to be elected. Nomination forms will be posted this week to all who are entitled to vote and who reside in the Roundstone area as per the voting register in the post office. It is very important that the people of Roundstone vote for who they want to represent them on their community council. The community council has important work to do liaising, with the county council on issues such as roads, water, sewerage, grant applications, tidy towns, the upgrade and use of the community hall as a community facility for Irish nights, events, meetings etc.
All are welcome to the AGM and it’s an opportunity to air your views on what should be done around the village, by people turning up on the night it supports your local community council which will make it a stronger body to fight on your behalf.
St Patrick’s Day Parade: The St Patrick’s Day parade in association with Cancer Care West starts at approx 2.30pm (Parade includes Roundstone Primary school and Cashel Primary school, local businesses, fire breathers, etc.) After the parade there is a kiddies’ party down at the hall, with Disco, Life size games, Bouncing castle, Face painting, Party food (hot food & treats) games for kids of all ages, this is all free of charge. All children who take part in the parade get a prize. No school will be singled out as the overall winner. There will be a prize for the business with the best float. There will also be music on the street (weather permitting).
Here is a little more news, from Ann’s broadcast 14th February
Car Draw: The Roundstone Pony show committee held their draw for the 2011 Ford Fiesta Saturday night 12th February in the Shamrock Bar. A great crowd turned out for the event. Garda john Conneelly was in attendance to make sure that all was above board, with James Conneely, x Garda Val Mahon, and Joe McDonagh. Mary King and Ann Conneely were asked to pick the tickets.
As well as the draw for the car, the cash prize winners were John Lean, Patrick McDonagh and a Mrs King from Bunowen, Ballyconneelly the other prizes went as far as Naples in Florida and Chicago.
The Car was won by our own Roundstone man Robin Woods, much to the delight of the crowd, Robin was so proud to have been handed over the keys, he has never owned a car, never mind ever driven one, he says its time for some lessons.
We would like to congratulate Paddy Yank and his committee, especially Anne Schley and Pat Mullen for all their work and to think that Paddy flew specially over to Ireland for the event and flew back on the Sunday. Good one.
