Well that’s the last Bank holiday over for this year; hope everybody made the most of it in one form or another there were certainly a lot of visitors around to keep the village active, helped of course to the good weather, we now start to really settle in for the winter, which just reminds me next weekend the clocks go back.

Bank Holiday Weekend: The Shamrock hosted a Halloween Fancy Dress party last night, I must say it was a fantastic evening with a huge collection of some very imaginative and daring costumes with a great local turn out, and there was a prize for the best costume, which incidentally went to Amanda McNalley, a well deserved winner with her very clever home made Bosco outfit, box and all. Looking at all these costumes last night what a great colourful parade for St Patrick’s day in Roundstone next year if everybody from last night dresses up for the event.

Marie O’Donnell: We would like to congratulate Marie O’Donnell on her engagement to Nial Conneely from Clifden, Nial proposed to Marie on Gurteen Beach last Saturday, and I have it on good authority that Nial went down on bended knee, chivalry is certainly not dead, actually its interesting the beaches and Innishlaken are certainly very popular venues for proposals of Marriage, anyway, we wish you both well for the future and long life together..

Also to congratulate Ann Davis (Innishnee) and Shay Conneely (Errisbeg) for their forth coming marriage in December. Have a great day with long and happy life together guys.

We also had a christening last week, of little Ella Jane, daughter to Brian and Maureen Vaughan

Gurteen Grave Yard: Just a reminder that on the 14th November 2.30pm we will be having a mass for the all souls up on Gurteen Grave Yard with Father Jarleth. Talking about the Grave Yard the Roundstone FAS lads have done a wonderful job in the old grave yard strimming all that heavy grass away, I had no idea what a wonderful plot it is, if that’s the right phrase to use, some very interesting head stones of which I had never seen before, its all very dignified up there now, and apparently I was told by the lads that it was between 25 and 30 years ago that the grave yard was cleaned up at that level, good timing for the 14th November. So our thanks to the Roundstone FAS team for their really great work in the grave yard, and I gather there is more to come to enhance the respect for our passed relations.

While we are on the subject of the FAS team, their next project is to tackle the Presbyterian site, beside O’Dowd’s lane to landscape it, permission has been granted from the Presbyterian Church to unravel the history of the Kirk and it’s various graves, actually this project is also part of Ann’s Roundstone Heritage walk booklet plus the fact this landscaping will go down well for next years Tidy Towns Competition, So there you are, our thanks to the team and thank goodness we still have the FAS scheme, and long may it last.
