Roundstone News 30th August 2010
Tuesday, 31 August 2010 11:39

Golly where has the time gone, already coming in to September, mind you whose complaining with this great weather, already Christmas is being discussed on the Radio, scary, anyway, our season is not quite finished yet, in fact I was just thinking Roundstone still attracts all sorts of people, Nial McDonagh is here with his family you know, the actor from Big Brother, Paddy the yanks cousin, as well as Brian Cohen who was spotted today on Innishnee perhaps to meet up the the Senator for a game of golf, who knows.
I do not have a great deal of news, owing to a personal eventful day here at Errisbeg, with one thing or another, I have English guests staying for a week, 2am this morning one of the bedroom ceilings fell in much to their and of course my horror, thank god no one was hurt, so with this dilemma having to sort out, and trying to keep everybody happy I have not been able to do very much research today for news, so I am going to slightly wing it tonight as the best as I can, so here goes

The Dive and beach Party, Gurteen:

This Saturday i.e. the 4th is the beach party and lectures etc with Monty Hall up on Gurteen, the events will start at 10am, you will find the full programme on the website, which will be updated as the events unfold, the cost is €30 Euros a head, the proceeds will go towards the stranded whale and dolphin pontoon which will be permanently based in Connemara, Monty will explain a bit more of this project on the pontoon project during the weekend, its a pact day with lectures, games and film shows particulaly of the filming that has taken place over the last few months here in Connemara , I suppose you could say its a preview before the final editing before it goes out on Air in late January, February. Then on the Sunday, there is shore and boat dives, with Scubadive West in Renvyle. If the weather holds out what a great way to end the summer. Well we still have the Champions of Champions and the pony sale to end off

Pony Show, Champions of Champions.

12th September, with a one man and his dog, so to speak showing man and dog skills in the herding of Sheep.

18th September Pony Sales, and Community Games, well talking about the games I have not been able to get the details of the said games due for the 18th but we will get them and will pass them on to Ann for next week .

Parish of Roundstone:

Our new Priest Fr Jarleth has now gone on holiday for the next three weeks, therefore time changes for Mass etc has had to change, in Roundstone there will be the usual Sunday Mass, but during the week there will be no weekday masses as from today, however during the week there will be a pastoral prayer service where people can receive Holy communion at 10am each day. So your support for the Pastoral group could become an important one to keep our church open. It has now become your and our responsibly to help the parish alive until such time we can have another PP.

Fr John McCarthy:

I thought you might like to hear some thing of Fr McCarthy’s welfare, having had to go to Knock yesterday, I called in to see Fr John and check out his new abode, its within walking distance of the basilica, his house is a new two bedroom house in a very peaceful estate, in a very well landscaped area. Fr John was telling me that he was glad to be in retirement, but then on the other hand he was also glad to get back to work not as a PP but on a smaller scale by saying mass every morning in the chapel, and was equally delighted to be able just to walk into the church, every thing was ready for him, he just says mass and goes home again, he told me this with a grin on his face. Any way he looks great and seems to be very contented. Funnily enough he actually admitted he miss’s us. We still wish this lovely man well. He is threatening to came back to visit his x parish, lets hope he dose.
