Monty Halls “Great Escape” On Saturday Monty gave a farewell B/Q party down on the old quay in Roundstone, open to everybody, with the BBC film crew, with lots of food cooked in a wheel barrow, cunningly provided by Ronan Crane, who indecently was the chef for the evening, it was quite sad to think that it is all over, but having said that I have a feeling that this 3rd series of Monty’s great escape will have a huge impact for our area and Connemara on the whole,
apparently the BBC were so thrilled with the results of the filming, and therefore will be shown to a world wide audience. So congratulations and thanks to all those that gave their time voluntarily to the making of this 6 hour program in other words 6 one hour episodes for the BBC program “Monty Halls Great Escape”.

North West Connemara Senior Citizens; Roundstone, Ballyconneely and Recess are going on a respite break to Portloaise, tomorrow and returning Friday evening; apart from shopping etc they will be visiting the Japanese Gardens and the National Stud, and visiting the Newbridge Silver enterprise, sounds like a good break, have fun troops.

Roundstone Musical Instruments; Raised 180 Euros during their coffee morning in aid of the Galway hospice, Malachy asked me just to thank everybody who supported this event; I might also mention that on the Wednesday of the 13th, October there will be a 15mins slot on Malachy’s shop, 30 years on with the nationwide team as well as footage of the monastery area.

Condolences’: Our condolences to B. Conneelly on the death of her father Alo Gallagher, from Clonakilty and Innishnee, Father in Law to Tom Conneelly, the funeral Mass will be on Tuesday 12pm i.e. tomorrow and finally laid to rest in Gurteen cemetery, our sympathies to all the immediate family.

We also offer our condolences to Sid Worley on the passing of his wife Mary Worley and to his immediate family. Mary Worley, Deradda West reposing at her residence as from tonight.  Removal for Mass Wednesday 12 pm followed by the burial to Gurteen Cemetery.

We were also saddened to hear of the sudden death of Lorraine Cunningham’s father; Michael from Clare, Lorraine Cunningham, along with her friend Michelle McCarthy leased and ran the Eldon’s Hotel very successfully for three years. Michael was certainly no stranger to Roundstone he constantly visited his daughter and did maintenance work when ever it was necessary with Michelle’s McCarthy’s Dad and Uncle to keep the place in good order and looked after the hic ups.

As you all know by now the two Castle bar men who lost their lives in Inishbofin in a drowning accident Saturday night whilst returning home, incidentally with life jackets, it makes me think that this was one of the main reasons we fought so long and hard to get a Marina for Roundstone as part of this safety aspect just for possible case’s like this to enhance another reason for a marina in our own area.  We get so many yacht’s & cruisers coming in to Roundstone, many of them run for shelter as well as those who choose to spent a few days in Roundstone, either heading for the Aran Islands or Inishboffin, simple accidents can happen so easily. I rest my case, what can I say? Except, may they all rest in peace.

Columbus school: Ted Sherwood who is the history master at Columbus school, and has a house here, brought 12 of his transition students down to Roundstone for the week end staying in Eldon’s on a beach and an environmental project, on the Saturday night at Errisbeg we did a “who Done it” murder mystery, I must say these kids were very quick in solving the mystery and seemed to really enjoy it, I was just thinking that night, these are the sort of young people we need to enjoy and learn about our environment

Birthday Wishes: Ann’s grand daughter Ellie Anne, daughter of Joanne and Pat, was three today, Golly how time passes fast, it seems only yesterday that we wet the babies’ head so to speak, any way happy birthday Ellie Ann, with many more of them
